Southern Food Day 2010

Posted by Danielle Helzer on Tuesday, May 18, 2010,

My English 9 classes just finished reading my favorite classic novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird." We only have a few days of school left, so we are watching the video the rest of this week. But to make things more exciting we had a southern food day to kick off the film. The book is filled with references to foods, so as we read we kept track of these and the kids could bring an item that was mentioned in the book or bring food that is southern in nature. Here are the different things we had t...

A Sound of Thunder Comic

Posted by Danielle Helzer on Friday, March 5, 2010,
In English 9 we just finished reading Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder." I thought I would experiment with a few different comic creators to find the best one...so....I used ToonDoo.com. The website is so cool! I spent about an hour tinkering. Despite the amount of time I put into this, I only managed to get 3 pages done! Ther...

A new year

Posted by Danielle Helzer on Tuesday, August 11, 2009,

At this time last year I was going through the same routine 20 miles down the road at Perkins County High School. It was my first teaching job (and actually, I was a student teacher for the first semester...strange situation and a long story!) and I was nervous beyond belief. Typically I'm a "grab life by the horns" type of gal, but last August I experienced a new set of emotions. We had just moved to this end of the state, far away from our family, friends, and everything we knew and this wa...
